Equestrian Activities at Autumn War 2008

Welcome to equestrians!

Autumn War 2008 is at the lovely Randle site, which has an equestrian camping area with plenty of room for portable electric corrals and water to the edge of the camping area, private riding trails and rooms for progresses on site (depending on road layout), and a fenced equestrian field with warm up and competition areas.
Equestrian pre-registration is requested – first registered, first assigned for the camping spots.

This year we transition to the new AnTir Book of the Horse (ABH) (approved May 2008). The new Society-level equestrian rules (December 2007) necessitated this change. That means that in addition to the opportunity for new authorizations, there will be renewal of current cards (the new cards will be valid for four years). Scheduled equestrian practices will occur during the event, to provide an opportunity for practice as well as authorizations.

Also to be noted: under the new Society rules, when you are attending an event and camping in the equestrian area, a trail ride – even on public trails – becomes an SCA equestrian activity. That means we have to:
- make certain those participating in SCA trail rides are an authorized equestrian (General Riding)
- send a Junior or Senior Equestrian Marshal along with you on the trail ride
This is a change – please understand that as safety officers, the Equestrian Marshals and the EqMIC must enforce these new Society and AnTir Rules.

There will be ample opportunity for spectators – the equestrian field has a fine spectator area on the north side, and we will provide day shades and some chairs to encourage observers to stay and watch.

Minors: parents or legal guardians must accompany their minors, even when “just visiting” the equestrian area. Please understand this is SCA corporate rules and we must enforce them, We don’t want to disappoint our future equestrians by turning them away.

A final equestrian schedule will be available at gate.
Please contact me with any questions and suggestions – my cell works at the Randle site.
